The Ellerby is one house, not a chain of rooms with a lobby attached.
It was built in 1802 as a private residence and it still behaves like one: you are let in at the door rather than checked in at a desk, the drawing room is a room you sit in, and the card room downstairs is the size of a card room, not a hall. Nothing is open all night except the porter.
